Dressage Training Tips – Riding Circles

How often do you train circles when preparing for a dressage competition?

There is more to riding circles than just getting higher scores in dressage competitions.  Riding circles have great advantages in having your horse supple and balanced when you are riding. You can have more fun and do more things with your horse. Riding good circles are a great way to train your horse to be supple and balanced. It is easy to plan your training to include circles of different kinds in your training program. It helps a lot if you have some markers around the circle. Then you can clearly see where you are going.

How do you ride a good circle?
Remember that you are your horse’s riding partner. So think about the part that you play in riding good circles. What about your position? Are you supple and balanced as a rider? Check that. Sit straight and tall, have your shoulders square with your horse’s shoulders and that your hips are aligned with your riders hips. Make sure you look ahead – look where you are going!

Use your inside hand to show your horse the way. Ask him/her for a slight bend to the inside of the circle with your rein aid. Your outside hand softens slightly to allow your horse to bend his/her neck in that direction. Think of how the neck can flow around the curve of the circle line.

Use your inside leg placed at the girth to remind your horse to keep going forward. Sometimes lazy horses use a change in direction like a circle as a good excuse to slow down and have a rest! Keep your leg on to keep the impulsion so that your horse keeps going forward. Remember forward first! Your outside leg stays slightly behind the girth so that the flow that you started with the head and neck continues through your horse’s body. A well ridden dressage circle means that your horse’s quarters don’t swing away from that line of flow. The result of riding good circles – a balanced and supple horse!

What kind of circles do you ride and how well will they score in your next dressage competition?

Non Traditional Training Systems

I am sure that there are a lot of horse lovers around the world, and that all of them would like to spend more time with these gorgeous creatures. There are a lot of horse stables where you can practice and learn how to behave around horses, and if you can afford one, you can keep one in your home. All horses are extremely sensitive, so you need to be extra careful while training them. One of the highly recommended training systems is the TTeam, developed by Linda Tellington-Jones, which is considered to be horse friendly, and most importantly available to everyone. It is especially suited to educating any horse who might have learning difficulties due to poor handling, injury or stress issues, or simple inherited conformational biomechanical issues. In Tellington’s words: “TTeam addresses the pain, soreness, fear and tension in a horse’s body which is very often responsible for their resistance and/or their undesirable behavior.” In her book “Improve Your Horse’s Well Being” she says that: “TTeam allows you to change your horse’s behavior and influence his personality without force, by using non-habitual, non-threatening movement and special ground exercises.” This method is very hard to teach, and of course requires a lot of patience, but trust me, the results at the end are worth every single second of it. Performance horses in every discipline, from endurance horses to Olympic dressage and jumping horses, have shown improved performance with the use of the TTeam training system. And the best way to learn this training system is of course from the master itself, Linda Tellington-Jones or even the practitioners trained and certified by her. This system is considered to be the most honest fulfillment of being able to enjoy with horses in a way that produces and results with comfort and confidence between the horse and its rider, and most importantly a system that can generate a genuine spiritual bond between them. But of course, if you do not have the time to visit any stables, or the means to take care for a horse, you can always go online and play all kinds of horse games, take care of your virtual horse in a completely equipped virtual stable and simply make the most with what you have at the moment.

To Lead Or To Be Led? Training your young horse to lead

Edit Article |

Young horse training is a step-by-step process: first they need to learn to be handled; they need to be trained to lead, lunged, and finally ridden. Here are a few basic horse training tips for lead training:

Conduct your leading lessons in an open area, preferably with the dam tied somewhere nearby.

Stand on the foals left side, holding the lead rope in your right hand. Hold the rope about six inches away from the halter.

Fold the rest of your rope and hold it in your left hand. Don’t wrap or coil the rope around your left hand, because if your horse spooks, you could get pulled along.

Stand at your foals left side, then gently tug on to the rope with your right hand to move him forward. Do not stand in front of the horse, because if he suddenly moves forward, you will be in the way.

When you stop, say “whoa” and gently tug the rope backwards. You can also stand facing your foal when you stop. That way it will get the idea that when you are both facing the same direction, it’s time to move forward. Then when you face him, it’s time to stop. Repeat this several times during the lesson. Remember that it is best to keep the lessons short, maybe about fifteen minutes only.

To move left or right, place your right hand on the withers, and gently push toward the direction you want to go.

The most important horse training tip for leading a young horse is consistency. Every time you have a training session, you should use the same commands or language to indicate what you want it to do. That way you will build up both skill and trust between you.

Goldendoodles and hidden dangers by Dee Gerrish

To just say “don’t let your Goldendoodle sleep in your bed because it could cause serious problems” would be like telling you not to get into your car because you MIGHT have a serious car accident! We ALL know that if we get behind the wheel of our car and drive it beyond our drive way, we could get into a serious accident. Heck, I recall when I was 15 years old and just learning to drive, I accidentally hit my mom’s car right in the driveway!!!

To Lead Or To Be Led? Training your young horse to lead

Perfect Training For Horse And Rider

A dressage horse is trained with focus on its movement and carriage. Dressage horses are trained to perform specific moves, such as the passage and the piaffe. In competition, horses are judged according to a number of criteria, including the relaxation, collection, impulsion and rhythm they exhibit during the test. A dressage horse should have good natural movement, which can then be enhanced by training. The signals between horse and rider should be subtle and almost unnoticeable, and the horse is expected to respond quickly to what the rider is asking. The ultimate goal of dressage is to make riding look natural and effortless. A show jumper is a horse trained to jump over a course of obstacles clearly and in the fastest time possible. Knocking down rails or refusing a fence will incur faults. The horses are taught to jump high and turn quickly. They are not judged on form, but instead are viewed as successful as long as they can clear obstacles quickly. Fences in show jumping competitions can range in height and width, testing the athletic limits of both horse and rider. If more than one rider goes clear during the first round, then a jump-off is held, during which the fences are raised and the horse with the fastest time wins. The website www.stal-amani.com portrays a unique equestrian facility in Belgium. Stal Amani Sports Horses offers for sale well-bred horses trained in show jumping and dressage. The site features many photographs of both the horses and the beautiful facilities offered. The website offers pictures and brief descriptions of every item, and prices are clearly listed as well. This is a very inviting set of websites.

Equine Training – Secrets to Achievement

Edit Article |

Horse owners love to engage in equine races. However, how can you possibly win a race if the horse doesn’t obey you? Through correct horse training techniques, you are able to make your equine obey your commands on the dot. Untrained horses may be harmful and it’s vital that you train them. You can’t teach old dogs new tricks but in the case of a horse, you may be successful in instruction an older horse but you must have patience and determination. Education younger horses is much less difficult. Soon, it is possible to win one of the horse races in your area. Never face a equine if you are afraid of it. The horse can simply tell if you are nervous or frightened. In case you want to win your horse’s confidence and trust, you must possess such qualities too. If the equine is within the stable or the pen/corral, it is possible to walk around it and check the buckets or water troughs and feed. Make certain that your horse feels your presence. When he gets used to it, he will no longer be bothered if you are there. Do not attempt to go near the horse or even touch it; just wait right up until the horse approaches you. Friendly horses are simpler to take as compared to skittish and snobbish horses. When the horse approaches you, this is the signal to commence the education. Firstly, you ought to train your horse in wearing a lead or halter. Show the halter to your equine and let him sniff or taste it. Do this everyday for about 15 minutes and when he’s already utilized towards the halter, raise it over his head but do not attach it. Don’t push your horse to the limit. Observe the body language because it tells a lot about the horse’s feelings. Keep on trying right up until your horse no longer shy away from the halter. Take your horse for a walk pulling the lead. When a equine is frustrated or tired, it could be harmful and it depends on the personality of your equine. Slow instruction is far better than forcing your horse to obey you. Make use of careful movements, calm voice, and steady training for much better results. Once you attach the halter and lead on, tell your equine to come to you without pulling the lead; when the horse obeys, give him hay or any treat. As the equine walks towards you, give the lead a tug. Do this all over again till your horse acquaints the tug with moving.Train your horse to human touch. It is possible to commence by touching his ears, chest, and muzzle. It is natural for horses to shy away, bite, or kick. Soon you are able to groom your horse and try saddle instruction. Should you feel any fussing, just stand still beside your horse. When you’re about to introduce something new to him, just stand still and let him see the thing you are holding (e.g. halter, lead, etc). Try moving away from him and you’ll notice that he’s waiting for you to return. Do the education calmly, slowly, and in a short yet steady manner. Well trained horses can win horse events with ease.Horse instruction is the only method to use your horse at work, when traveling, or when doing other tasks. Not all equine trainers achieve achievement. Just follow these easy yet effective secrets and see for yourself. Training Your Horse to Do Amazing Things

Edit Article |

Horses are tamed and taught different things since ages. Often you have seen in some documentaries or shows where different animals perform amazing things. Sea World is a place where animals are taught to do remarkable things. Along with different training sessions, animals are taught husbandry behavior, volunteering urine or milk samples or traveling in transport vehicles. Additional input is always required once the animals know their behavior. Stable environment reduces the chances of variables, so keep adding new input to keep things going. It is always hard to work with horses. Horses are the kind of animals which require a proper team work and number of different variables to work on daily basis. A variable environment is required to work on horses. To work on horses, it is necessary that they are well responsive and obedient. Partnership, trust and focus between a rider and a horse are of great importance. To develop all these it is necessary to eradicate the balking and spooking, these behaviors can be disastrous at time.Consistency and reliability are both important on behalf of horse and rider. You need to trust your horse and in return your horse trusts you. It important for every relationship to remove any sort of concerns or fear from it only that way you can trust your partner in an effective way. The horse training involves minimizing this fear factor between horse and the rider to build a strong trust able relationship.Whatever your training plans are, the obedient and responsive attitude from your horse is always necessary. There are so many training tools or ways through which you can achieve this, but there are two very effective training tools available: reward reinforcement and removal reinforcement. Responsive and compliant behavior from a horse can be achieved by building a reinforcement history by using any of the above given method. Reward reinforcement is much used tool as it helps to attain the complex behaviors quite successfully. To bring a drastic change in your horse’s attitude, it is important to include the reward reinforcement into your training plan. With the introduction of this approach you will see that, your horse will begin to feel comfortable working with you. Gradually starting from the feeding, you will notice that you presence will become a conditioned reinforce. With the passage of time you will see that the horses will begin to feel more and more comfortable in your presence and if someone wrongly fed them dinner, they willingly left that meal and come out to work. You will notice that yet they were hungry but still performed all the training sessions perfectly. That clearly shows that their association with you strengthen over time and that is the key to all the matters.Every time you communicate or interact with your horse, it’s a new learning for him. During all the training session what your horse constantly leaning is what you will not allow and what he can get away with. One important point here is that every behavior of yours influences the behavior of your horse, so keep developing the trust.Encouraging your horse for every positive move is a key of training. Don’t take your horse’s good mood for granted. Always let him realize that his particular mood or behavior is worth appreciating. It is better to interact with your horse all the time for positive response.
