Equine Training – Secrets to Achievement

Horse owners love to engage in equine races. However, how can you possibly win a race if the horse doesn’t obey you? Through correct horse training techniques, you are able to make your equine obey your commands on the dot. Untrained horses may be harmful and it’s vital that you train them. You can’t teach old dogs new tricks but in the case of a horse, you may be successful in instruction an older horse but you must have patience and determination. Education younger horses is much less difficult. Soon, it is possible to win one of the horse races in your area. Never face a equine if you are afraid of it. The horse can simply tell if you are nervous or frightened. In case you want to win your horse’s confidence and trust, you must possess such qualities too. If the equine is within the stable or the pen/corral, it is possible to walk around it and check the buckets or water troughs and feed. Make certain that your horse feels your presence. When he gets used to it, he will no longer be bothered if you are there. Do not attempt to go near the horse or even touch it; just wait right up until the horse approaches you. Friendly horses are simpler to take as compared to skittish and snobbish horses. When the horse approaches you, this is the signal to commence the education. Firstly, you ought to train your horse in wearing a lead or halter. Show the halter to your equine and let him sniff or taste it. Do this everyday for about 15 minutes and when he’s already utilized towards the halter, raise it over his head but do not attach it. Don’t push your horse to the limit. Observe the body language because it tells a lot about the horse’s feelings. Keep on trying right up until your horse no longer shy away from the halter. Take your horse for a walk pulling the lead. When a equine is frustrated or tired, it could be harmful and it depends on the personality of your equine. Slow instruction is far better than forcing your horse to obey you. Make use of careful movements, calm voice, and steady training for much better results. Once you attach the halter and lead on, tell your equine to come to you without pulling the lead; when the horse obeys, give him hay or any treat. As the equine walks towards you, give the lead a tug. Do this all over again till your horse acquaints the tug with moving.Train your horse to human touch. It is possible to commence by touching his ears, chest, and muzzle. It is natural for horses to shy away, bite, or kick. Soon you are able to groom your horse and try saddle instruction. Should you feel any fussing, just stand still beside your horse. When you’re about to introduce something new to him, just stand still and let him see the thing you are holding (e.g. halter, lead, etc). Try moving away from him and you’ll notice that he’s waiting for you to return. Do the education calmly, slowly, and in a short yet steady manner. Well trained horses can win horse events with ease.Horse instruction is the only method to use your horse at work, when traveling, or when doing other tasks. Not all equine trainers achieve achievement. Just follow these easy yet effective secrets and see for yourself. Horse Training Secrets – Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Whether you’ve got a pony for the kids, or a full-blooded Arabian, getting the animal to do what you want and need it to do is the most important thing for all concerned. An untrained horse makes for an unsafe horse, and an unsafe horse makes for unhappy owners. Ideally, training should begin as soon as possible, but if you aren’t able to begin training your horse until it is older, don’t despair. You can still have a well-behaved, well-mannered, rideable horse.Begin by simply letting your horse know that you aren’t afraid of it or nervous around it. Appearing calm and decisive will go a long way to gaining your horse’s trust and confidence. Simply walk around the corral or pen, or walk through the stable, as if it were the most natural thing in the world for you to do. Check the feed and water troughs or buckets. Get your horse used to seeing you in his space. He will soon come to accept that you share his world and that you are alright to have around. Don’t try to catch or even touch the horse unless he approaches you. If you’ve got a friendly horse, he’ll take to you easier and sooner than one who is suspicious or skittish of people. After your horse is used to having you around, you can begin training. One of the most important things you can train your horse to do is to walk beside you on a lead. In order to train to a lead, your horse has to be used to wearing a halter. If he isn’t halter trained, start out slow and small. Spend 15 minutes holding it in front of him, letting him sniff and even taste the halter. Once he gets used to the sight of the halter in front of him, move it over his head. Just hold the halter above him – don’t try to put it on yet. He may shy away at first, but he’ll get used to it soon enough. Again, work for 15 minutes or so at a time. Never train your horse past his tolerance level. Tired or frustrated horses don’t learn anything, and depending on their personalities, can become dangerous when fatigued or bored. Once your horse is accustomed to seeing you with the halter near his head, put it on. You may only get it over his nose the first few times and that’s alright. Again, he’s got to become comfortable with the idea, as well as the item, that you are presenting. Once he gets it on, only leave the halter on for 10 to 15 minutes at a time for the first few times. He may try to toss his head or rub or paw at the halter. Once he becomes comfortable with the halter on, then you can leave it on if you choose. Coming at a horse with a halter, slamming it over his head and then forcing him to wear it can build an attitude of resentment toward you, and an atmosphere of mistrust on the part of your horse. Slow and steady training, with careful, calm voice and movements, will win over rough or rowdy any day.The next step is lead training. This is best done with a long lead. As with the halter, take things slow and easy. Let the horse sniff the lead before you use it. Clip it to his halter and let it hang down, so he can feel the weight of it. Try to get him to walk toward you without pulling on the lead to start. Do this with a favorite treat or a handful of hay. Once he begins to step toward you, tighten the lead so that he acquaints the tug of the lead with moving. Stop after 15 to 20 minutes. Once he is comfortable walking with the lead, come back beside him. Take a step and tug the lead. Take another step and tug again. He will quickly learn that he walks when you walk. If he doesn’t like to stop when you stop, try placing your hand in front of his nose and tugging the lead backward. You can add a verbal command if you like, but it is not necessary.Your horse will need to learn to tolerate being touched all over. Certain body areas are more sensitive than others and horses will naturally shy or become defensive when touched in those areas. Start by giving a positive, pleasing touch with on hand while the other hand moves to an area of discomfort. The horse will soon get used to the feel of a hand on his ear, muzzle or chest and will no longer bite, kick or shy away. He’ll learn to trust you with his body, making vet care, hoof care, grooming, as well as saddle training and other types of training easier and more pleasant for all involved.Poorly trained horses will often pull or whinny and fuss when tied. One way to train a horse to stand quietly while tied is to first just stand beside him and not move. He’ll most likely be used to walking beside you. Standing still may confuse him at first, but he’ll get used to it. Move on to tying the lead, but still standing beside him. Next, stand a little farther away, so that he can see you but not so far away that you can’t reach out and reassure him or stop him if he becomes upset or tries to move. Once he remains calm after you move away, walk out of his sight for just a moment or two. Gradually build this to longer and longer periods of time. Your horse will soon quietly, waiting patiently for you to return. Standing quietly will also help you when it comes to grooming, cleaning hooves, or administering medical treatment.Getting him walking beside you, allowing himself to be touched, and standing quietly are perhaps the three most important things you can teach your horse. Even if he is only ever going to serve as a pasture ornament, walking on a lead, tolerating touch, and standing still make vet care, grooming and other necessities of horse ownership so much easier and stress-free for both horse and master. Always remember to allow your horse to become accustomed to any new idea or item slowly, calmly, and for short amounts of time to start. You may never take the stakes, but a well-trained horse is a winner, hands down!

Secrets of a Horse Training Expert

]]>

Among the animals of equal or greater strength, the horse is the most useful to man because of its superior nervous development. In fact, it has almost perfect control of its muscles and bones.
This perfect control gives horses instant response to any outside stimulus. For example, if you strike a horse with a whip you get an immediate action of some kind, which depends on the breed of horse.
It is because of this highly developed nervous organization that the horse has displaced all other animals who are able to carry heavy loads among civilized people.
But here’s a common problem:
The horse is often given credit for more intelligence than he deserves. Many would even place him on a level of reason with the man. Perhaps this is because of the demeanor of most horses, but it is a fallacy.
Now don’t get me wrong. Horses aren’t Stupid, but THE HORSE CANNOT REASON. It may be able to act on how you touch it, or speak to it, but this is a learned response after you spend many hours with your horse. If you notice at first, these interactions do not have the desired response with your horse, and it is only with firm interaction that they learn the meaning you intend.
I make this statement, not merely as a theory, but as a fact based upon more than twenty years of close observation and contact with many thousands of horses.
In the area of intelligence and reason, there is a vast gulf between man and horse – a gulf so wide that no horse will most likely ever cross it. You need to understand that horses look smart, but need time to learn what we are intending, and take that into account if you want to be effective in training your animal!
Since the horse cannot talk and does not understand what you say, you will have to make your wants known to him in the first place through the sense of touch. Later this method of communication will be merged into that of voice and motions. As for instance, a touch of the whip will mean at first “Go on”; later a motion of the whip will have the same effect, and at last the word “Get-up” will mean the same thing.
When you talk to the horse through the sense of touch, take into consideration the nervous organization. To some horses a sharp stroke of the whip may be very cruel, because of the extreme sensitiveness of their nerves, or being thin skinned as many term it, when to another horse the same stroke would only attract attention.
Watch your horse closely so that you may know and act accordingly. You cannot train a horse and put only half your attention to your work. Be alert and keen, ready to take advantage of any sign of submission or wilfulness.
Want to know more? You can unlock the secrets to training any horse — you just need to take that first step today.

Unlock The Secrets Of Horse Riding

]]>

You often hear people say that they have been riding since they were three years old, or they were practically born in the saddle. Simple logic will belie this. No child of three years has enough coordination or strength. However, children do have a natural balance but no particular rhythm. Every sportsman knows the necessity of coordination, balance, and rhythm.
Before you buy a horse there should be a year of lessons, not only to learn the fundamentals of riding but to learn how to conduct oneself around an animal and the stables.
Without instruction you pick up a lot of bad habits. It used to be common practice to throw someone into the water to teach him to swim. In self-taught riding you may be able to ride a horse you are familiar with, but put yourself on an animal inclined to be stubborn or one that hasn’t been ridden for some time and you will be grabbing for leather and your apparent accomplishments will suddenly disappear.
Not only will you be embarrassed by your own inadequacies but the horse will recognize the lack of skill and take advantage. Yes, indeed, there is more to riding a horse than the mere act of sitting on his back.
Even though it may take years to become an expert horseman you can have fun learning each lesson. Each bit of knowledge and accomplishment will make you eager for more, and each lesson will become more interesting. In riding, coordination, balance, and rhythm become a habit. Watch a horse suddenly shy with an experienced rider. The horseman’s body works automatically with the motion of the mount, his hands control the horse’s head, and the animal is brought back into position without too much effort.
An uncontrolled horse will do as he pleases. If the inexperienced rider gives the wrong cue, the horse will obey without question, even though it is poor judgment. How many times have you heard people say, “This stupid horse won’t go.” Believe me, it isn’t the horse who is stupid. It is the ignorance of horsemanship showing quite plainly. There is a slogan all horsemen know well, “It is always the rider, never the horse.” It is so easy to blame the horse.
When you start lessons, the first thing that will affect you will be a tinge of fear when you climb on the horse’s back. You have to get used to the height from a horse’s back. You cannot learn to ride as long as you have any fear, because it makes you tense and there is no place for tenseness on a horse’s back.
There is little danger of falling off during the beginner period because you will not be allowed out of a walk until you have learned to sit. However, every horseman falls off sooner or later, and the falling is not so bad as the anticipation. You may be thoroughly jarred but rarely hurt. It is usually the experienced rider who falls, and this is because he rides well enough to become careless with his balance.
To stop the horse, shift the weight slightly back and pull back lightly, then release the reins. The stop should be balanced, and if the horse does not stop, pull harder, forcing the animal to an abrupt halt. By pushing slightly with the balls of the feet and squeezing with the knees, the horse will learn to stop without so much pressure on the reins.
If the horse does not stop well with reasonable pressure on the reins, he should be retrained. The reason for releasing the reins when the cue is first given to stop is because constant pressure on the reins means to “back.”
As has been said, there is a lot to learn in riding a horse, but each stage, each new piece of learning is exciting. Have fun riding!

If you write a list of secrets on training young horses, you would get a volume as thick as a world atlas. There was never any scarcity on tips concerning training young horses; and like belief, many of these advice were never proved to be wrong or right. The truth is, a lot of facts are important for horse trainers in their work to develop a young horse’s behavior and physical characteristics.

The high number of tips on training young horses can drive anybody to madness, especially those who are new to horse training. Some principle and techniques that exist can be conflicting to each other; making the confusion more evident. However, to really learn on training young horses, a person has to be approachable to trying out various techniques by combining different horse training routines. Here are some of the most popular but successful training tips for young horses that have been practiced by a lot of trainers for generations.

Five years old is the average age that a horse can start training. Although at this age, horses are still very young and therefore should not be trained severely because an ironfisted training program at this age can harm their physical development. Letting the horse feel what it is like under the saddle should be the focus at this age.

Any horse training program depends on the breed of the horse being trained. Like humans, horses have fast and slow learners. Take the case of the mountain horse, which we can trained under the saddle as early as two years of age. Or the Arabians, which are especially slow on their development; Therefore, at two years old, they can hardly be trained for anything yet. Even under one breed, each horses still have their own development rate; knowing this will make you able to correct your horse training program accordingly.

While it is true that horses can start training at two or five years old, young horses should in no way undergo a training program that is intendent for fully-grown horses. Training sessions for younger horses should start with fifteen to thirty minutes of training periods.

In the training of young horses, the training environment plays an important role.. For instance, deep layers of soft sand in the riding ring may not be good for young horses because in order to move their feet out of the sand, they will have to pull harder. Also, an inclined training ground may put more stress to the young horse’s developing legs; therefore, it’s better to use a level field.
