A dressage horse is trained with focus on its movement and carriage. Dressage horses are trained to perform specific moves, such as the passage and the piaffe. In competition, horses are judged according to a number of criteria, including the relaxation, collection, impulsion and rhythm they exhibit during the test. A dressage horse should have good natural movement, which can then be enhanced by training. The signals between horse and rider should be subtle and almost unnoticeable, and the horse is expected to respond quickly to what the rider is asking. The ultimate goal of dressage is to make riding look natural and effortless. A show jumper is a horse trained to jump over a course of obstacles clearly and in the fastest time possible. How Acquiring Equestrian Training And Horse Back Rider Training Knowledge Can Benefit You!
Posted: Jan 30, 2008 |Comments: 0

Horse people spend years trying to find out information and techniques from different trainers for a few tips that help them with their horse back riding training before they ‘chance’ upon training that actually works for them successfully that they can instantly understand and practise the moves.
How many times do you see people practising the same move whether general riding, dressage, western, western pleasure or cutting and they repeat the same moves over and over with no improvement ‘locking’ their horse into a frame and getting mediocre results.
Then they sell their horse and buy a new one and unless the horse can ‘teach’ the rider the ‘move’ the same thing happens. When an experienced trainer hops on the horse they can execute moves that you didn’t know your horse was capable of – This is the SECRET- to learn and understand the required thinking and aids to ask and communicate to your horse and unite this with your correct body position that doesn’t lock or stiffen their frame.
Do you see people kick and hit their horse to move it and when the horse finally moves they jerk on the reins, and pull the mouth to make the horse uncomfortable – it’s no wonder that the horse doesn’t want to move!
Imagine being able to dance in self carriage and never having to continually repeat exercises with your horse, which they see as undeserved punishment! And better still, having the correct riding seat and the respect from your horse so it will move forwards willingly as you lift your energy!
This is why when you have the opportunity to acquire quality training information – You should take it- Read it – Understand it- Plan it and Practise it!
How do you know when the training offered is quality equestrian and horse back riding knowledge that is easily understandable to you?
A good trainer will tell you about the results they have obtained with other horses. The information that they provide will be clear and concise, being easy for you to understand as they discuss what you don’t want with your horse and then what you do want! You can understand clearly how to implement the training information with your horse, with examples of improvement being discussed with so you can see how to progress to that point and when it is obtained. Training tips and a free mailing list should be available to you – so you can communicate easily.
Most importantly great equestrian training is so substantial that it caters for horse back riders and horses of all equestrian disciplines – Western, English, Western Pleasure, Cutting, Reining, Hacking etc. to give breakthroughs and advance horse and horse back rider performance. Lets say a horse won’t go forwards properly, this isn’t a particular problem associated with one equestrian discipline -i.e dressage – it’s a communication and respect issue that can happen to all riders in any equestrian discipline – the equestrian rider needs to understand the theory and comprehend the bodily-kinesthetic knowledge of the moves – how to apply the training and aids, and know what to expect from the horse.
These key areas of training need to be available to the horse back rider in unison allowing an advance in equestrian training and performance, good horse training will equip you in all these areas – ending frustration created from no advance in horse back riding skills – due to only part of the training information being available to the horse back rider.

The Boerboel dog breed hails from South Africa and is indeed an integral part of the country’s history. From the size and shape of its head the Boerboel has very obvious Mastiff ancestry. Indeed the Boerboel dog breed was the result of many 1700 European dog breed mixes. Most of those dogs were sizable canines, having been transported by the European settlers who need reassurance in a foreign land. Ultimately the Boerboel was crossed with local African dogs in order to withsatnd the conditions.

Effective Communication Between Horse & Rider
By: Robert Curtin
About the Author
I have trained and bred Arabian horses for over twenty years and have developed my skills through the guidance and philosophies of some of the greatest ‘natural horseman’ of their day. I have been influenced by such greats as Monty Roberts, Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt. I only endorse techniques in horse training that comply with the philosophy that ‘violence is never the answer’. http://everythingbutthehorse.nethttp://horselibrary.blogspot.com/ (ArticlesBase SC #1989126)
Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Effective Communication Between Horse & Rider
Horse riding can be both exhilarating and frustrating sometimes during the same ride. A failure to appreciate and understand the basics of horse temperament or riding mechanics can make the experience less than enjoyable. The opposite is just as true, having a genuine interest and respect for the horse and its capabilities coupled with a natural or acquired aptitude for communication and riding techniques then you are likely find horseback riding an exciting and relaxing leisure pursuit.
In order to develop effective communication between horse and rider the first and most important aspect is simply TRUST. A trusting relationship developed on the ground (through ground work) enables you to develop an understanding of your horse’s attitude, behaviour and demeanour. This work helps to learn whether your horse is is shy and needs encouragement, bold and forward and so requires a confident rider, or are they compliant and so able to follow your direction and leads.
One of the major areas to work on whilst on the ground is the area of ‘respect for space’. This applies to both the horse’s respect for your space and your respect for theirs. Physical touch is a great manner in which to establish a pleasing relationship between the horse and yourself–for example, rubbing the horse’s shoulder, back, and head– then progress to applying pressure to instruct the horse to move into or away from your space. In addition to ground work, riders will benefit greatly from an understanding of horse physiology and mechanics (how they move), I their communication efforts with their horse.
Dressage is the art of training the horse through the rider employing a variety of aids such as legs, hands, seat, spurs and whips by which to communicate with the horse via negative and positive reinforcement (comfort and discomfort). For example, applying pressure from your legs urges the horse to move, while placing your legs in a different place tells the horse to hold its position. You can also use your seat to slow the horse or push the horse in one direction or another.
Understanding the horse’s behaviour ahead of time allows you, as the rider, to anticipate the horse’s reactions and conduct. For instance, if a horse normally appears willing and ready to work, but on another day exhibits anger and reluctance, then you should consider that something is wrong–either with the horse or with you, the rider. Anticipating the horse’s reactions can help you decipher what aids to use, and how to stay one step ahead of the horse.
Riders should remember that horses only do things for to reason; to obtain comfort or avoid pain. This is the primary focus of any training with horses; making the position or situation we want the most comfortable for the horse, and any other reaction that we do not want uncomfortable for the horse. Riders should remember that rather than blame the horse, they should realize that a misbehaving horse is often the result of a rider who is not effectively communicating.

Cause and Effect in Horse Training
We all know that if you cause a horse to do something then you will get a certain effect. What a lot of people don’t understand is how much effect they actually have on a horse. The reality is that every second that you are with your horse you are training him even if you’re unaware of it. It is not uncommon for people to try to do something with their horse and actually teach it something completely different, or something they do not want him to do.

Horse have an attention span similar to that of men when they are distracted by something, that is they get distracted very easily. According to an expert of the English language, the most frequently used English noun is the word ‘way’. However, in horse training the most frequently used word is ‘whoa’. It is important to be aware of the words we use in training our horses and what meaning we attach to them. Awareness: The most important Tool in Horse Training
Horses are not determined creatures, that is they only do what works for them. They are not creatures like humans who can show determination and patience to persevere with an idea that has previously failed over rand over again. With that in mind horses could never have invented the light bulb, as it took Edison more than 10,000 attempts to get the light bulb right, horses do not have that many attempts in them.

Product DescriptionMany horse trainers, even those who espouse the so-called natural horsemanship approach, take the position that horses who fail to obey a human’s request are doing so as much out of perversity as ignorance. That’s not Mark Rashid’s view. In his words, “If we understand that horses can’t separate the way they feel from the way they act, then we can start to see that unwanted behavior isn’t bad behavior at all. More times than not, it’s just the horse expressing the w… More >>
