In my Ebook on how to teach your horse to load himself in the trailer I mention a few movies where they use the Power of Now. When I wrote that, I didn’t know about the movie ‘Peaceful Warrior”. Because if I did, I would have devoted a whole chapter to this movie and the message in it. That’s why I’m writing this post about it instead. I know from experience that the Power of Now can be extremely powerful. Imagine what our Horsemanship could be like when we could tap into the Power and Wisdom of being in the Now.
‘Peaceful Warrior’ is about a gymnastic with a lot of talent, but with a very big ego. The movie shows how his ego gets in his way of his goals and then he meets his new mentor. A master of Being in the Now and tapping into the wisdom and power that’s available for everybody.
If there’s anything that horses are better at than us and what we could learn from them is: living in the moment!!! Whenever we think, we are living in the past or in the future and block of the power and wisdom that comes with intuition. Thinking is just a habit, a very very very strong habit. And it blinds us. ‘Thinking’ is the ego trying to be a big shot. Trying to claim all the credit for what you have achieved, where the ego actually only limits us.
I watched it a third time last night and wrote down all the life lessons and quotes I noticed. I am sure I missed a few and they might mean something else to you than to me. The main reason why I love sharing these, it is to keep myself on track and learn to master them myself.Life Lessons and quotes from Peaceful Warrior:
Knowledge is not the same as wisdom – wisdom is doing it
What does happiness has to do with anything? – Everything
Many people live a lifetime without ever being awake
Service is the highest purpose
You need to start asking better questions
Slow down, you might actually taste something
Others want you to believe their answers. Find your own answers – from the inside
You’re not what you think – take out the trash, empty your mind
“Are you out of your mind?” – “yes, and it’s taken a lifetime of practise”
There’s never nothing going on
The only thing that matters is this moment – Here, Now
Sometimes you have to lose your mind before you come to your senses
Learn to meditate in every action
All you have is right Now
Ego shouts: “what would you  be without me?!”
Not knowing is a great realisation
Emotions are natural, but don’t let them rule you
Find your answers from within
There are no ordinary moments
You’ll never be better or less than anybody else
Be conscious about your choices and responsible for your actions (including your thoughts)
The ones that are the hardest to love, are the ones that need it the most
Death isn’t sad – the sad thing is, most people don’t live at all
Even if you exactly what you want, you’ll still suffer, because you can’t hold on to it
It’s the journey that brings us happiness, not the destination
Life has three rules Life is a mystery – don’t wast time trying to figure it out
Keep a sense of humour – especially about yourself, it’s a strength beyond all messure
Nothing ever stays the same

Where are you? Here!
What time is it? Now!
What are you? This moment!
The movie sure is a must see!! Watch a few video’s on my blog.
From the year 2001 until the end of 2009 I was a Parelli Natural Horsemanship professional. In 2010 I decided to teak a break from teaching courses and lessons. I still love the Parelli program very much and hope many people will join in the future. So how could I still help? I know many people had trouble loading or travelling with their horse in a trailer, so ?I decided to become an ambassador for safe and comfortable trailer loading and transporting of horses.I plan to do this by offering all I know about trailer loading to ensure safe and comfortable loading and transport for both horse and human. And?. by promoting horse trailers with slant loading, since this is the most comfortable way for horses to travel. In those eight years I have loaded many horses and have also transported some of them on commission. With several of my personal horses I kept on challenging and improving my trailer loading abilities and have travelled extensively through Europe with them.

When people talk about natural horsemanship, they often discuss the efforts of specific trainers and methods. However, the basic theories of natural horsemanship have been around for many years, and have been a part of quality trainers’ programs long before the term became popular. One of the most important parts of natural horsemanship is communicating with the horse. Because horses cannot use words, they communicate primarily through body language. This means that every movement they make can communicate a message to other horses, and to their handlers. It also means that we can mimic those communications, bringing across our message to the horses in language that they can easily understand. Let’s start with the basics. Horses are herd animals. Within the herd there are many roles. The stallion is there to procreate and to protect the herd in times of danger. The lead mare is there to direct the herd and run the politics within the herd structure. The second in command is there to keep the other mares off the lead mare’s back and to follow through with the directions of the lead mare. Mares without foals become “aunties” for youngsters who wander and get into trouble. Each horse has its own unique place in the herd, which can change according to the current herd dynamics. To communicate with your horse, you need to establish yourself within its herd. Many horses are dominant in nature, and will quickly place you low in the herd rankings, pushing you around and challenging your authority. This quickly leads to trouble where handlers are overhorsed and become afraid of their mounts. Other horses are less dominant, and are happy to be led by others. A good handler establishes him or herself as the lead mare. As lead mare, the horses will follow your directions without hesitation. They accept you as their leader, and believe that you are there to protect them. Natural horsemanship teaches handlers to become the lead mare. It teaches how to communicate with your horse through body language and cues so that it understands you as it would another horse in its herd. This is also the foundation of most quality traditional training methods. If you choose to try natural horsemanship, consider that no one method is the “one true” method. All horses are different, and many will react differently to different situations. Learn as much as you can from each trainer’s methods, and put together something that will work best for your horse and your needs. Some well-known horse trainers that are considered to be practitioners of natural horsemanship in the late twentieth century include: Tom and Bill Dorrance, Ray Hunt, John Lyons, Clinton Anderson, Buck Brannaman, Monty Roberts, and Pat Parelli. Many of the above mentioned trainers have also established themselves as successful brands and offer certification programs, where for a certain fee you can become a certified trainer and proudly wear that title. Natural horsemanship is a great foundation to a training program, but it should not be exclusive.
