Good Horse Tack

Edit Article |

Posted: Mar 31, 2010 |Comments: 0

Your horse should have his own saddle and bridle which must be adjusted to fit.  Some people purchase discount horse tack, cheap horse tack or used horse tack from horse tack catalogs, but they must be in good condition. There are many who seek horse tack for sale, looking at horse tack wholesale, horse tack supply and horse tack and supplies.  Some are even venturing to miniature horse tack, which includes miniature horse tack discount or best prices. It is for this reason that several equestrian experts have opened up their websites in the effort to equip the horse lover and individuals, by guiding them in their chosen path – horse riding and their horse’s needs. Many people have been so thankful for proper training and support. Avenues for making their dream come true.Horse training actually begins as soon as you get your horse, as they need care and attention on a regular basis.  Keep them fed, watered, exercised and groomed, with tacking up part of the riding process.  Tacking up is a very important process for horse lovers – it bonds your relationship between your horse. Now with all of the excitement that you feel for the new adventure that awaits you, such as riding your horse, you would surely want to learn everything about horse rearing and training. There is no need for you to worry about how to get the information that you need on horse riding, and good tack horse; you have the portals of the Internet! You can always surf the net, and log on to the websites that can provide you with the details on horse riding, dressage and rearing. What can the online information on horsemanship do for you? Of course it is time saving. If you are busy with your day to day activities, then taking online lessons would be a good idea. You would just have to spare a few minutes of the time that you have in a day and be able to learn the aspects that come with horse riding. You would also have free tips that are valuable for the riding path that you are taking. When putting the bridle on your horse it is important to provide an atmosphere where the horse would be able to accept it willingly.  Take your time and encourage him to open his mouth. Other fundamentals of horse tack is to ensure that the bridle is not hurried, tickling the side of the horse’s tongue, through the corner of his mouth.  This will teach your horse to take it willingly.  Before the process of wearing the saddle begins, you should have your horse’s consent from the start. Find out if he is happy about being saddled and girthed, as this is part of the riding process – before you climb on board.  Check to see if the saddle is a good fit by placing the saddle on his back.  Check to see if he is hesitant or timid – if he moves away at the sight or feel; this probably tells you how he feels about it. Take your saddle in one hand and for a few moments rub him on the neck, until you see him relax his body alittle.  Now is the time to proceed and place the saddle on his back. From the back of your tacked up horse, with you on the saddle, there should be a clear gap between the horse’s spine and the saddle all the way through. From the very start, it is important that your horse is trained to behave properly and accordingly; there are wholesale horse tack and supplies and horse training tack. There is also horse racing tack and horse tack trade shows for the specialist horse rider.  It does not matter if your horse has all the horse tack supplies, if it is horse tack equipment from horse tack shops or horse tack online or horse tack online auction.  Your horse could be covered from head to toe with horse tack gifts, but you must understand that your horse should know how to keep you safe during a ride. Knowing how to ride fast when needing to and slow down is imperative for a safe ride.Be in command – this is important. Initially, the horse may feel afraid. Once your horse has been trained to follow your command and other instructions, training it would be far easy. Train your horse to be calm at all times. Do not hurt the horse – that is very detrimental. You can experiment by taking the horse’s tack off after riding and spend some time walking with him loose.  It gives your horse the chance to unwind with you and to reflect on the riding session that you both experienced. You could be using any tack – model horse tack, western horse tack, mini horse tack, draft horse tack, English horse tack and horse racing tack, walking horse tack, and other horse tack equestrian equipment for this. These are just some of the things that equestrian dressage emphasises in the training. Call your horse so he can respect and obey you as its master. Learning more about horses and riding a horse would make you more capable of handling your horse even better.

Three Horse Racing Factors to Pick Winners on an Off Track

I don’t advise horse players to bet on horses running on an off track. By “off” I mean a wet track that is rated, sloppy, muddy, or good. That being said, I know a lot of people will still bet on tracks that are not labeled as fast, so here are some helpful horse racing tips and observations to help you pick more winners. First of all, I’ve broken it down into three factors that must be considered to find a horse that really has a chance to win.

Why Having Your Horse Trained by a Professional is a Good Idea

Edit Article |

Posted: Aug 23, 2010 |Comments: 0
|

Owning a well trained horse is a joy, this is an irrefutable fact of horsemanship. One of the most common problems new horse owners run into is that they buy a seemingly well trained horse only to discover that it needs further training or that it may have some behavioural issues that need to be addressed. These problems may be out of the scope of most horse owners so it’s always a good idea to seek the advice of a professional. The first step to treating a behavioural problem is to understand its underlying cause. Professional horse trainers can easily identify and rectify a problem due to their extensive experience. A trainer can easily differentiate between physiological and psychological problems and deal with them appropriately.A professional trainer will also be able to work with the horse according to the horse’s abilities. Horses are individuals and some are more trainable than others. Enlisting the help of a trainer will greatly enhance your horse’s training as they will be able to gauge the horse’s potential and work with it to achieve desired results. It is important to remember that horses are very sensitive creatures and they can easily detect your state of mind so it is crucial to remain calm and gentle during a training session. Trainers know how to use the right mixture of firmness and coaxing to bring out the best in a horse. A professional trainer will never feel frustrated or stressed while working with a problem horse as they understand how counterproductive these feelings are when it comes to working with horses.Badly trained horses require more work than untrained horses because a lot of work is needed to undo bad habits or vices stemming from a traumatic experience. Untrained horses are actually easier to deal with because you’re essentially dealing with a clean slate, a horse’s initial training determines how he’ll mature as a reliable equine citizen. Many potential problems can be avoided with proper initial training.Sadly many novice horse owners buy horses only to find out that they are unmanageable. Some unscrupulous horse traders are skilled in hiding vices and problems in the horses they sell and by the time you discover the horse of your dreams is potentially unmanageable it’s too late. Selling your horse at this stage will only result in further financial losses.

Using the Three Ps of Horse Training to Teach Your Horse Good Manners

This is basic ground manners explained. It simply means that your horse does as you ask. However simple or routine a task may seem, it’s important that your horse knows how to move safely. Your horse needs to know that to push, step on or endanger you in any way – either intentionally or not – is unacceptable. It’s easy to see that even such simplest annoyances have the potential to cause a person serious injury. Since horses outweigh you by a ton, literally, a misplaced hoof can break your foot. Whilst under normal circumstances you would probably be covered for this under the terms of your equine insurance it’s always better not to have to find out the hard way! This can be avoided by establishing and maintaining a personal space bubble. Allowing your horse to nuzzle into your pockets in the search for crunchy treats could land you with a nibble in a rather inconvenient place. These love nibbles will not feel as such when made by teeth as big as those of your horse. Horses in a herd treat each other differently than they must treat us. Often they will bite, nip and crowd each other, but they are somewhat more robust than we are. The space bubble lesson is one that many horse owners and trainers have learned the hard way. My first, and subsequently the last, experience with the concept of crowding occurred when I bought my first horse years ago. My wonderful new four-legged friend liked to “help” me with the paddock cleaning. He liked to place his nose into the manure cart as I was filling it. Then one day he actually lifted his front hoof and put it into the cart when I put a rake full of manure in. He knocked the cart over, which spooked him, which in turn spooked the other three horses in the paddock. Suddenly I found myself within the midst of hooves and tails every which way. Thankfully I was not hurt, but this could have been a mild or even a serious disaster – and may have even necessitated a claim on my horse insurance policy.

tick bites and symptoms

Before going into the details of symptoms shown as a result of bites from the ticks let’s look at the food the ticks usually like. It is the blood sucking from mammalian bodies, aves and reptiles. Aves are birds. One thing to remember is that not all the tick bites are harmful, because a majority of ticks make no disease while biting the host. The disease is usually affected only if the tick biting the human being carries with it the disease-causing micro organism.

Teaching your horse to be tied – a good preparation

In the US it is more common to teach your horse to be tied than in the Netherlands. During my education with Parelli, however, I saw the benefit of teaching your horse to totally accept being tied for a while. A horse is a living creature AND a prey animal. Fear, spooking, reacting, fleeing will always remain a subject we will have to work on continuously. What we as humans can do for them, is to help them from birth not to listen to their instinct, but to get them so mentally ‘fit’ that they are not run by their emotions. This is the best solution for more safety, less accidents, etc. It does require a lot of knowledge, skills and focus from the human.
You can get it so good as to where your horse ‘thinks’: “aha, I am tied. I know from experience that everything is OK. Let’s see how long it will take this time for my owner to untie me again. In the mean time … relax “. You don’t get here by just tying your horse to any object, in just any location and prey all goes well. This is how it is often done, unfortunately, and this is how many foals, young horses and adult horses end up hurt or even dead. Share this article with as many people as you can. The solution to preventing so many accidents, is so simple.
Also read my article on: ‘how horses learn’ (which you get after signing up for my newsletter)
First of all, what not to do: 1. Tie knots; too dangerous 2. Use elastic ropes; they do not provide a quick release
Tips how to do it safe:
- Start in a safe place and stick around- No knots, but one wrap- In case your horse pulls back, close your hands, but allow the  rope to slide.  This way  there will be just enough resistance. Not too much for your horse mightpanic, but also not too little for then your horse will be loose immediately.- Use a long, good rope; At least 12′ long.- Use a rope halter. Web halters are not suitable for teaching.
Repeat this during a few sessions until it goes really well, even with scary things going on around you, or with scary objects in your hand. Next step would be to to tie your horse. You stay around, but still don’t use knots!! Now you can wrap the rope around the pole (something sturdy) three times.
Most important here is the moment you untie/release your horse or give him comfort. This is the moment where they learn. Is it going well for a short time in the beginning, then untie them again, before they will try something else. For example, if they start pawing or calling their buddies, that would not be the right moment to untie them. Sometimes it can take a while, but wait for your horse to calm down again AND reward that by untying them.
Eventually your horse will become calm while being tied and will learn to accept it as a safe and comfortable place to be. Stay alert however. If you leave them, be aware of what could happen in the meantime. Without knots, however, your horse can get himself untied and find a spot nearby to graze a little. Add a few extra wraps for more resistance, but anything is better than your horse learning (subconsciously) to pull and break a halter when he panics.
Not everybody will be able to use a suitable tree like we can (see the pictures underneath), where we can tie hem high and they can move around underneath. I was able to calm many impatient, persistent horses with the help of this tree.

Probably one of the most often asked questions of my Parelli career was: “what can we do with our foal”. In principle you can accomplish very much with very little. Everything you do with your foal will have an influence on the rest of his life. Often the advice is to do nothing with them or as little as possible, but that is impossible. For as soon as they interact with humans, they are learning something (good or bad). Every approach, touch and also the reaction of the mares to humans, the foal will interpret and learn. Foals are ‘full faculty learners’ from birth. This means they have to be able to do many things within hours after birth. See, hear, get up, walk and run from danger. Us humans and many other mammals are helpless and blind.
This was an introduction to the answer to the question: “what can we do with our foal”. Usually the people did not find my answer very satisfying, because it already takes a lot of knowledge, timing and experience to do it right the first time. When learning to paint, you don’t start with the most expensive canvas, expensive brushes and indelible paint. A foal is like a blank canvas and it would be ideal if you already knew exactly what the desired result of your actions would be.
From the very first moment back in 1997 when I first saw a small picture of Parelli Natural Horsemanship in a magazine in Australia, I have always been very enthusiastic about Pat & Linda’s program. I could not have learned the deep understanding of a horse anywhere else as effectively. By seeing the footage underneath, I remember again why. These foals are given such great experiences, mainly because of the great relationship and communication these mares have with humans.
I hope the video on my blog will inspire you and that you will share it with many others. Enjoy! I sincerely hope this will be the future image of the horse world.
