Horse Fence Jumps What Are They Made Of

Horse jumps are carefully designed for size, height and safety of materials. These jumps test the training and expertise of both horse and rider in competitions. As this magnificent animal takes the jumps with rider leaning forward placing her weight in the most advantageous way. Both need to know the jumps are safe. By purchasing from a well known manufacturer, they are assured. After safety concerns, price is important. A company may guarantee that his company s equipment is sold to you at the lowest price. This includes costing less than any other manufacturer charges for similar quality jumping equipment.Regardless of manufacturer, the crucial details and design are crucial. Whether made of wood or PVC, the design might be the same. Wood is susceptible to rotting but PVC, a man made material is not. It can be left out in the rain. Most purchasers are choosing PVC because it is impervious to rain and can be left outside regardless of the weather.Although PVC is more expensive than wood, new computerized methods of producing horse jumps keeps the price of PVC jumps in line with the cost of wood jumps. It can now be sold for less than wood jumps. There are many things about this industry that the average person does not know. There are a variety of types of jumps. Cavalletti jumps are used in dressage exhibitions. The horses trained for dressage, also known as dancing, are different than those used for Western trail competitions for example. Those jumps are similar to natural things found on trail rides, such as logs.Horse show planners know the specifications for each type of jump. A beginner may want to set up a few low jumps to learn with. You can set of your own jumps if you are cautious. Make sure no nails or sharp protrusions exist in the material you use. Try a cross rail jump with two poles of an upright fence meeting at a cross in the center. This trains the horse to aim his body at the center of all jumps. There are oxer jumps and pyramid jumps and an endless number of combination jumps. All require careful measurements be taken. The height is important and the distance between jumps is crucial. Generally speaking, allow twelve feet between jumps for a horse, and ten feet for a pony. Each jump needs to have about twelve feet between it and the next jump. You could measure your own horse s strides as an alternative. Use a tape measure for accuracy. For a pony, use a distance of ten feet between jumps. It would be extremely dangerous to place a pole behind a jump. This creates a false ground line that confuses the horse. He will perceive the jump as being farther away than it is. His judgement of distance would create a danger as a result. The jumps over open water are required to meet certain size requirements in a show. Jumps can be individually purchased or bought as a package deal with everything needed for one complete jump or one complete competition course. Accessories are available as single purchases and include extras such as flower boxes to make the course more attractive to the audience. Appearance is not nearly as important as safety, but it does add to the enjoyment of the spectators.Horse jumps bring joy to the people watching these magnificent equine competitions. They may or may not appreciate the work and training behind the acquired skills, but they certainly derive pleasure from watching how gracefully they do it. The beauty of the horses is enhanced by an attractive show ring as well.

To Lead Or To Be Led? Training your young horse to lead

Young horse training is a step-by-step process: first they need to learn to be handled; they need to be trained to lead, lunged, and finally ridden. Here are a few basic horse training tips for lead training:
Conduct your leading lessons in an open area, preferably with the dam tied somewhere nearby.
Stand on the foals left side, holding the lead rope in your right hand. Hold the rope about six inches away from the halter.
Fold the rest of your rope and hold it in your left hand. Don’t wrap or coil the rope around your left hand, because if your horse spooks, you could get pulled along.
Stand at your foals left side, then gently tug on to the rope with your right hand to move him forward. Do not stand in front of the horse, because if he suddenly moves forward, you will be in the way.
When you stop, say “whoa” and gently tug the rope backwards. You can also stand facing your foal when you stop. That way it will get the idea that when you are both facing the same direction, it’s time to move forward. Then when you face him, it’s time to stop. Repeat this several times during the lesson. Remember that it is best to keep the lessons short, maybe about fifteen minutes only.
To move left or right, place your right hand on the withers, and gently push toward the direction you want to go.
The most important horse training tip for leading a young horse is consistency. Every time you have a training session, you should use the same commands or language to indicate what you want it to do. That way you will build up both skill and trust between you.

Horse Training a Young One Review

Goldendoodles and hidden dangers by Dee Gerrish
To just say “don’t let your Goldendoodle sleep in your bed because it could cause serious problems” would be like telling you not to get into your car because you MIGHT have a serious car accident! We ALL know that if we get behind the wheel of our car and drive it beyond our drive way, we could get into a serious accident. Heck, I recall when I was 15 years old and just learning to drive, I accidentally hit my mom’s car right in the driveway!!!

Horse Training a Young One Review
Horse trainers have to have different approaches when dealing with young horses. One is by leaving the horse alone to learn the different skills and the other one is by training the horse at a very early stage. Horse training requires careful thinking in order to be an effective trainer.
Even without the presence of humans, a horse can learn the basic skills. Some horse trainers allow the young horses to learn everything on their own on the first two years of their existence. Herd dynamics can

Winning Horse Racing Methods Based on Workouts
Posted: Dec 09, 2010 |
]]>
I use workouts in several of my horse racing systems and people who haven’t tried them often ask me why workouts are so important. There are several reasons that I use works to find winners. One of the nice things about workouts is that they are usually pretty accurate despite the often chaotic situation that professional clockers operate in. If they say a horse worked 3 furlongs in 36 flat, they are usually right. When you’re lucky enough to get an actual comment out of a clocker, that is absolute gold. They are some of the most astute horse watchers on the planet and if they make an observation, they are usually on target. But if you’re not lucky enough to get a comment, and let’s face it, they are few and far between, then the next best thing is to understand works themselves.Of course, you can also go to your local track, watch the horses work, and try to figure out which one is which and to spot an exceptional work, but it is much better to use your time more wisely and let the pros do the clocking. You can use your time more wisely by studying trainers and understanding how each one uses workouts to train his or her horses. The angles that I have found with horses being trained and exercised have paid off very well for me, but they took a long time to figure out because each trainer and horse is different. When I finally managed to put it all together, however, I realized that because of the public nature of those early morning runs, they are the one thing they can’t hide from you. Most trainers aren’t going to trailer a horse to sneak in a workout at a hidden track on a farm somewhere out in the boonies. They exercise their charges right where they stable them, at the track. Understanding the psychology of each conditioner, and really knowing the truth about workouts, is the key to understanding horse training. It is hard to be a winning horse player without understanding the basics of training a horse.I would have to say that is the key to using workouts and why both my angles based on workouts have kept working. Most people just don’t understand the works because they don’t understand the psychology of the trainer. The answer to how fit and ready the horse is may be right under your nose, but you fail to see it.

Horseracing Handicapping When Works are More Than Just Exercise
Most people who are involved in horseracing handicapping understand that workouts or works, as they are sometimes called, are mostly just exercise, but there are some special cases where a work can be very significant. The clockers who time the works and sometimes comment on them will often let you know if a high profile jockey exercised a particular horse.

The subject of horse racing works is a complicated one and this horse racing article about workouts will just scratch the surface, but it should get you headed in the right direction. Using Clocker Reports for Horse Racing Handicapping is All About Time – Part One
Horse racing handicapping factors usually have two determining filters that have a direct effect upon their relevancy and strength. The first is time. I don’t mean time, as in how fast a horse gets around the track, though that certainly matters. I mean time as in how recent something happened. We often think of how long ago a horse raced and try to fit it into a form cycle. We do the same thing with workouts.

Horse Racing Handicapping Tips for Using Breeding, Precocity, and Late Bloomers
There is money to be made handicapping and betting on maiden races. The fact that maiden races continue to produce a large number of winning favorites indicates that maiden horse races are not as difficult to handicap as some other races. One of the biggest reasons for this is that breeding can be used to such a great extent. Certain sires and dam sires are known for producing precocious off spring.

A Horse Racing Handicapping Tip for Avoiding Horses That Will Bounce
After extending itself and expending a lot of energy in a difficult race, a horse often needs a race or two to recover. It is very hard to know, however, when a horse will bounce or when it will continue its winning ways. No one wants to bet against a horse that just won a race with a high speed figure. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense, at first glance. The winner of most horse races is one of the top four horses who had a high speed figure in its last race.

Horse Racing Handicapping Maiden Races and First Time Starters
Many people who handicap horse races and bet on them don’t like to play maiden races. They feel that the runners are unknown quantities and therefore too difficult to evaluate. First time starters, runners who have never competed before, are the biggest problem.

Probability Equals Horse Racing Betting Profit or Loss and a Way to Find Good Bets
What is the secret of making money betting on horse races? Like any other investment, it is the probability of a positive outcome. The probability of a horse winning a race and making a profit can be described as risk versus rewards. With any financial investment, the amount of risk should be weighed against the reward. In plain English, if a horse will win often enough at the current odds to regain all money wagered along with a profit, then it is a positive bet.

Find the Perfect Horse Race to Handicap and Bet
What is the best kind of horse race to handicap and bet? That is a question that many horse players ask themselves when they find that they are losing and want to stop buying those losing tickets and start buying winners. The problem is that all horse races and all tracks are not created equally. Some well meaning pundits have steered punters toward claiming races stating that they are the best because each horse is entered according to its fair value.

Handicapping Harness Races in Winter Weather
There’s no doubt that horses are well suited for cold weather and usually handle frigid temperatures and precipitation well. Standardbreds, harness horses, are a hardy breed that handles any kind of track condition. On the other hand, it is important to know these tips about handicapping harness races on an off track.

Winning Tips for Handicapping Pick Fours and Pick Threes
Fifty cent pick fours have given a lot of players a chance at a pretty big exotic bet payoff with a small investment. At one time, in order to have a chance to hit the pick four, especially at a buck per combination, the price was just toot high for some players. Now, with race tracks lowering the minimum bid to fifty cents or less, the multiple race bets are getting more action.

Tipsters always focus on the horse’s stats in prior races to make horse racing tips. Rarely do they consider the skills of the trainer and the jockey in their predictions. Here are some reasons why you should not make the same mistake.Get To Know The Top Trainers You can either read daily racing forms or go to the race tracks to know who are the best horse trainers. Because of their numerous victories, their high earnings and excellent track records will easily compel you to bet on the horses that they have trained. The best trainers make sure that their horses are ready for any particular race. They understand that the horse should make money as well as place high in the race. Because of inexperienced horses, expert trainers may lose some races. Do not be discouraged when this happens. Some horses may need to run a few races before they can actually reach their potentials.Steer Clear Of Trainers Who Love Their Horses Too Much A trainer can fall head over heels with his horse! You may not believe it, but it happens sometimes. Horse training is never easy for both the trainer and his horse. Sometimes trainers may have to test their horse’s limits to prepare them well for a race. Some may be too kind and tolerant with their horses. They might feel that their expectations are too high, so they shift to other strategies to make things easy for the horse. When a trainer is too emotionally attached to their horses, he rarely wins. Consider that the next time you study horse racing tips.Get Acquainted With The Jockeys If you have the chance to go to the tracks to meet the jockeys, do so. Jockeys, especially veteran ones, know the race tracks well. Experience has taught them how to steer their horses according to a track’s nooks and crannies. When you study your horse racing tips, find the jockey which has the most number of races for that particular track. Chances are, he can navigate his horse better than the rest. Jockeys, like horses, prefer some tracks than most. It would be wise to include this in your handicaps. The Horse Will Always Be The Bottomline The trainer is responsible for entering the horse into a particular race and class. The jockey is there to guide the horse to victory. Still, the two can only do what they can. When the starting gun fires, everything is up to the horse. No effective training regimen can make up for an unfit horse. As you study horse racing tips or when you make bets online, always prioritize the horse’s skill, but never undermine the impact of a good trainer and a shrewd jockey. Because tipsters have to consider factors such as weather conditions, race track characteristics, and horses’ performance, they tend to exclude the trainer’s skill and the jockey’s aptitude in their horse racing tips. It is a still win-win situation if you do the contrary.

Bonding With Your Horse – Part 2 – Becoming Friends

]]>
Once you have established boundaries, you can begin to become your horse’s friend. Even in herds where there is a strongly dominant mare, you will see that many horses develop strong friendships with one another. In fact, dominant mares often choose a second-in-command to carry out her duties, so that she can enjoy the good life. Your horse needs to become your second in command. This means that while he must always obey you, he can also think for himself and act in the best interests of the herd. He gains a sense of self esteem that allows him to offer his best, and to trust in your decisions in a way that a complete subordinate cannot. A horse with a healthy sense of self is far more enjoyable as a companion than one who relies on you for everything he does. In fact, many low-ranking horses are timid in nature and are so busy avoiding abuse from the rest of the herd that they barely care for themselves. To create this bond, spend time with your horse in a low pressure environment. Go for walks with him around the property and let him graze on the rich grass. Spend time grooming him and find those itchy spots. Play games in the arena, chasing him and setting up small obstacles for him to go over. As your horse begins to learn your limits, and see you as a friend, you will find that he will trust you. Instead of trying to take things into his own hands, such as taking off when something spooks him, he will learn to turn to you for guidance. This process is impossible without having first established boundaries. If your horse feels that he can push you around, he will continue to try to establish dominance over you. If he is more of a timid sort, he will feel that you cannot be trusted in an emergency, and he will turn to his own defenses should anything go wrong. But with strong boundaries, and a well developed friendship, you wind up with a balanced relationship where you are the leader, and your horse is your happy second in command. After you feel like the relationship between you and horse is ready for the next step, you can start adding some work to the relationship. It is highly recommended to avoid horse training until you complete the bonding step and really feel like you are ready to move on. The problem is that if the horse isn’t ready for the next step it may result in undesirable behaviour and attitude, which is not acceptable if you are looking to develop a strong partner in horse competitions, shows and other events. The other factor is that it is always more challenging to “re-train” a horse, rather than begin training from the ground up. Applying these simple techniques will allow you to bond with your horse, which is a very important step before starting training or other horse activities.

The bearded dragon dietary needs may surprise you. Bearded dragons are omnivorous so they need both vegetables and insects for their food. The feeding necessities of your dragon will require your efforts in traveling to the pet store often to provide the proper nutrition. They should have a good variety of foods that may include crickets and finely chopped leafy greens. It is best to avoid too much iceburg lettuce and similar lettuces since they offer little nutritional value.

Bearded dragons are a popular reptile pet for owners who desire a reptile pet. They are native to Australia and live in arid rocky regions. With a triangular head and flat body they are omnivorous eaters enjoying both plants and insects. They are a docile animal and fairly easy to care for. In captivity they tend to do best when their diet includes a large amount of vegetables though they will eat about anything that gets in front of them.

Bearded dragons are a favorite in the pet world often due to their unusual looks. Bearded dragon pictures definitely give us the feeling of looking at an ancient creature and indeed this species of lizard looks a lot like the ferocious dragons of myth and folklore that we see in movies today. They have horns on their head and surrounding their jaw. It is not hard to imagine these horns growing to extreme proportions along with the dragon itself.

Are dragons real? While most people say that dragons are not real I think that the question and its answer is actually more complicated than that. I don’t think the question we should be asking is so much if they exist as it is what they are. Dragons as spoken of in history are described as a serpent or reptile often of large proportion. Depending on the culture or the part of the world you get your stories from they have different attributes all of which can be attributed to living…

When a horse spooks or shies he is dangerous not only to himself and his rider, but also to others, this is especially so if the horse is ridden on roadsides. Horses, being prey animals, often respond to objects they perceive as being threatening by shying and bolting from them. Some horses shy at virtually anything and they are often deemed as problem horses that are dangerous to ride. Horses can spook from everything, from plastic bags to wheelie bins, if the horse finds the object scary, he will everything in his power to avoid it.There are some things you can do to desensitize your horse. This problem horse training is ideally started when the horse is young and in training as it will ensure a spook proof horse. Begin by lunging the horse for a few minutes to allow him to work off any excessive energy. Leave a halter and lead rope on the horse and approach him slowly with an old saddle pad or blanket allowing him to sniff it. Work at the horse’s pace and if he spooks or takes a step back, introduce the blanket again slowly until he is comfortable having it close to him.Once he’s more at ease around the blanket, you can start moving it around and swinging it slowly. This will help desensitize the horse against flapping objects. The horse will most probably feel uncomfortable and may even shy, so be patient and work with him until he is accustomed to having the blanket swung around him.The next step is to touch the horse with the swinging blanket, gently swing it onto his back and all over his body. Once the horse accepts the blanket on his head you’re halfway there! Place the blanket by his feet to help desensitize him to objects under his feet, this is an essential part of the desensitization exercise. That’s it; reward him profusely for a job well done! The next desensitizing exercise you should try is to use a soft rope and work with it in much the same way as you did with the saddle pad or blanket. This teaches the horse to tolerate having a rope moving around his legs and body. Teaching your horse to tolerate this type of sensation can prove to be lifesaving if tack fails and the horse finds himself with bits of tack flying around him. This makes the horse much safer in dangerous situations when tack breaks. Throw the rope on the ground and in-between the horses’ legs and belly until he is no longer afraid of it. If the horse allows you to move the rope around his face and head, you’ve successfully completed this exercise.Last but certainly not least is the plastic bag. The majority of horses shy from plastic bags and by doing this exercise you will help your horse overcome his fear of fluttering objects. Show the bag to your horse and allow him to smell it, then tie it to a long lunge whip and wave it around while holding your horse on long lead rope. The horse will inevitably shy and try to get away from the terrifying object. Keep shaking it around and the horse will eventually become accustomed to having it around him, once he’s calm he will allow you to touch him with the plastic bag. Move it around his body and under his belly, when he allows you to touch his head with it, you’re done.Work at your horse’s pace and always end your training session on a positive note and with a lot of pace. Never pressure your horse in a difficult situation as you may cause him irreparable psychological damage. Make sure you do these exercises regularly even after the horse has become desensitized to ensure the horse doesn’t fall back into his old familiar patterns.

How to Make Your Horse Coat Shine
‘Pig Oil’ is a well kept secret, revealed here by dressage rider, Hannah Biggs. It’s actually a mineral oil which was originally used to make pigs shine in the show ring and has been used on heavy horses to keep their feathers silky white and shiny. Hannah shows how to apply it to make your horse’s coat gleam and catch the judge’s eye! She explains its many uses which, she says, include a treatment for sweet itch, minor cuts and rug rubs, as well as restoring hair. (01:35)

Spanish Braiding for Your Horse’s Mane
Dressage rider, Hannah Biggs, demonstrates how to correctly braid a Spanish stallion’s mane for competition. However, she points out that on a daily basis she just divides Torri’s mane into long plaits to keep it out of the reins. Hannah has instructions from his owners not to trim or pull his mane at all, so Torri is shown here in all his glory. It takes a strong pair of hands to get this lot under control but the end result is a work of art. (05:24)

3 Tips For Western Horse Pleasure Riding
Posted: May 01, 2010 |Comments: 0

]]>
When one speaks about Western style of riding horses, it refers to a completely different type of riding than the English style. There is different gear and a different set of rules for riding. The most common thing in mind would be trail riding and cowboys. In actuality, it refers to many and diverse kinds of riding and mounted activities. Basically, western riding is anything that is done with western tack.
One of the most popular classes within the spectrum of western riding is the western pleasure class. Typically, it is for beginners to the show ring or trail riding. It will provide the beginners experience and control over themselves in a show or trail scenario.
The requirements for competitive western pleasure classes vary somewhat depending on the governing competitive association and on the breed of horse involved, it also varies depending on what you want to accomplish with your mount. Generally speaking, a western pleasure class is judged primarily on the horse’s ability to deliver a pleasurable ride through his responsiveness, attitude, and way of moving. You are in control of how your horse moves, and are responsible for providing the proper pleasure riding training for your horse.
In contrast to events like reining, western riding, trail, and others, in a pleasure class the contestant is not alone in the show ring. He or she can “hide” among a group of other competitors and is not judged individually.
Here are Three Essential Horse Tips for Western Pleasure Riding:
Tip No. 1 – The horse must be well disciplined
In pleasure riding, the horse’s demeanor is very important. You must be able to show that your horse is consistent with his behavior. Some horses change their attitude instantly once they enter the arena. They may get overly excited or unruly with other animals.
It is very important to train and control your horse’s behavior. He should be prepared and make sure that nothing will be new to him once the competition has initiated. In your training, simulation is very important. A horse that is trained with similar stimuli will not be bothered by the unknown simply because nothing is scary anymore. Since western pleasure riding is not extremely physical on your horse for the most part, attitude and demeanor is paramount. The process of desensitizing can be referred to as such, or sacking.
Tip No. 2 – Create an excellent connection with your horse
To win in pleasure riding, you must display that you and the horse are communicating flawlessly. As a rider, you must show that you are in control at all times and that your horse is always willing. Only time in the saddle, mixed with knowledge, will create success in this area. On the trail, enjoyment and safety of both the mount and rider should be the only concerns.
Riding with confidence is vital. Judges will try to examine you in many ways to determine if you are having difficulty with the activity or it is just a walk in the park for you. You need to hide your cues. Judges must not be able to detect your commands. This is the primary way of judging your performance. The more visible your cues are, the less your chances of winning the show. Your horse can also pick up on your every emotion. Realize the horse feeds off your energy and keep it positive and uplifting.
Tip No. 3 – Enjoy and show that you are having fun
It is not called Pleasure Riding for just any reason. Make sure that you express your pleasure while riding the horse, whether on the trail or in the ring. Judges love smiles and controlled enthusiasm. Your happy attitude could be difference between winning and losing.
Remember in pleasure riding – attitude, horse’s responsiveness, and the execution of movements are what count the most. While we have gone over many horse training tips in this article for competitive horse pleasure riding, please remember that there are many types of bonding with and riding your horse, including western pleasure riding, trail riding & rodeo events.

Sit Centered and Balanced for Effective Horseback Riding
Horseback riding is all about balance and staying centered. You always want to keep your horse in good balance for his stage of training no matter what your discipline.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a dressage rider, a western pleasure rider, a trail rider, or an event rider. Correct balance is essential to effective riding because the center of your balance directly affects your horse’s balance.
